H. P. Lovecraft lived in Providence, Rhode Island, and published most of his stories in pulp magazines such as Weird Tales. His work, including The Call of Cthulhu and At the Mountains of Madness, shaped cosmic horror in fiction, games and film.
He died in near obscurity and his reputation grew afterwards. His letters and some of his fiction also express racist views, which readers and critics continue to discuss.
